Sensational Sunset Sail Aboard the Thane (1.5 hrs.)
by 3 Hour SailThere’s nothing quite like the spectacular colors of a sunset as seen from the water. The remains of daylight dance over the waves and calmness fills the air. Dusk offers you the pleasure of experiencing the sea from an entirely new perspective. Begin your sunset cruise with a tour of the harbour, and then you’re off to view the stunning First Nations Land and Sea mural. Next, you’ll head out to the open seas, where the engine is shut down and you sail gently across the water as the sun sets behind the Sooke Hills. The time is right to open a special bottle of wine, spread some hors’d oeuvres and take in every sensation of this magic moment aboard the gorgeous, painstakingly crafted 55-foot Thane. At your discretion, the Captain and Mate are on hand to offer insight into the marine life that thrives in the Strait of Juan Fuca, geological knowledge and an abundance of good old fashioned sea tales. There is opportunity to view eagles, great blue herons, seals, dolphin and occasionally whales. On your return, you’ll be treated to the dazzling sight of the City of Victoria all alight. No minimum number of passengers required to sail. Maximum number of passengers is 18. Schedule Notes The exact departure times will vary based on expected sunset time. by 3 Hour SailIf you’re looking for a truly unique nautical experience that blends a sense of yesteryear, a peek at delightful marine life and a cruise of the Strait of Juan Fuca, then a sail aboard the Thane is just what you desire. This tour gives you a genuine tall-ship sailing experience! The Captain and Mate of the Thane provide endless information about the waters they call home, and even offer you the opportunity to participate in the sailing the vessel. If you prefer, sit back and enjoy the fabulous scenery while keeping a look-out for marine life such as whales, sea lions, porpoises and an array of seafaring birds. Your destination will vary depending on tides and wind, but plan on sailing within the region of the historic Fisgard Lighthouse, the Naval harbour, Esquimalt Lagoon and up to Witty’s Lagoon. You may travel out as far as the shipping lane and down to Clover Point and Trial Island. A fantastic choice for families (children love when the ship’s cannon is fired) and also perfect for romantics! No minimum number of passengers required to sail. Maximum number of passengers is 18. Bring the family! All ages and abilities welcomed. The Thane often drags a fishing line and offers a bit of crabbing during your sail. The Thane is 55 feet overall, and was painstakingly crafted by its owner Len Pearson.
