Adventurous Whale Watching Excursion (3-4 hrs.)
by Sooke Coastal Explorations
Imagine this: The thrill of salt air rushing past your face as an amazing ‘super clan’ of over 100 killer whales passes you by. It could happen to you while participating in a sensational whale watching adventure on board Sooke Coastal Explorations 12-passenger open air Zodiac. The design of this open-air vessel coupled with its state of the art Hydrophone makes for the perfect way to get a real sense of the pristine natural environment that encompasses you. While spotting orcas is undoubtedly the highlight of your adventure, you’ll also be treated to viewing smaller marine mammals and sea birds such as harbour seals, Steller and California sea lions, Bald Eagles and a number of other native birds. Your well-informed guide will offer insight that supplements an already top-notch voyage. Break away from land and experience the wild side of BC!
- May through October are the ideal months to view Southern Resident Orcas in all their glory.
- The Juan de Fuca and Haro Straits are home to three Resident orca (killer whale) pods, referred to as J, K, and L pods. Over 90 whales belong to these three pods, providing you ample opportunity to have your own close encounter of the deep.
- During the peak viewing months, Sooke Coastal Explorations’ success rate for sighting whales is often 95%.
- Sooke Coastal Explorations is a proud member of the Whale Watch Operators Association Northwest- which puts the safety of whales as their number-one priority.
