Wine and Redwoods
by Extranomical ToursExperience two California classics on this trip: Muir Woods and wineries in the Sonoma Valley. Board a van or small bus and head across the Golden Gate Bridge to visit Muir Woods. Take in views of massive Redwoods, feel moisture in the air, breathe the distinctive aroma of damp soil underfoot, and enjoy a calming stillness as you explore the trails. Next is a mini tour of Sonoma wine country, only about an hours’ drive from downtown San Francisco. Since you’ve left the driving to a professional, you can take in the scenic wine country and do tastings without worrying about getting behind the wheel. You’ll visit two distinct wineries, each with their own charisma, and tastings here are complimentary. Between your wine tastings, you’ll stop at Sonoma’s Healdsburg Plaza where quaint shops, eateries and of course, tasting rooms, offer you lots to explore. Your day concludes with a jaunt through the charming, artistic seaside town of Sausalito. Here, you may choose to enjoy a ferry ride back to downtown San Francisco, or stay on the tour to take in a stunning view of the City by the Bay from a bluff near the Golden Gate Bridge before you are dropped off at your hotel. Bike Tour of East Bay Wineries
by East Bay Winery ToursSpend an afternoon going on a leisurely bike ride and exploring the wineries of Oakland, Alameda and Berkeley, or have a pedal focussing on the urban East Bay winery scene. Your journey starts at the ferry terminal in downtown Oakland (making this an easy trip for visitors from San Francisco). After you meet your guide and are kitted out with a bike and helmet, you'll hit the road (which East Bay Winery Bike Tours promises will be flat and safe) in search of vineyards. You'll visit three or four wineries in the Oakland, Berkeley and Alameda area, or explore urban East Bay, highlighting the growing trend of urban winemaking, where winery owners import grapes from nearby vineyards and make wine in the city. Each tour is slightly different; as you travel between wineries, you might pedal through an Oakland estuary, cross a bridge to the island of Alameda, or stop for a picnic on the beach. Your afternoon will conclude with a short ferry ride back to Jack London Square in downtown Oakland — and perhaps a final winery stop if there's still time. This trip combines the joy of experiencing the East Bay area's urban and natural highlights from the seat of a bicycle with sublime sips of some of California's best wine. Enjoy a cycling winery tour in the Oakland/Alameda/Berkeley area, or the urban East Bay area, that will take you to 3-4 wineries. Tours led by an experienced guide. Tours depart at 11:30pm on Saturdays (starting April 7) and last about five hours. Guests must be 21 and over. Private, unscheduled tours can be arranged for groups of 6-12 guests. Scheduled tours usually have no more than 12 guests.
