Gold Mining Comes Alive Trek

Then, jump on a shuttle and make your way to Mascot Mine, situated on a cliff overlooking the Similkameen Valley. Along the way, you’ll listen to stories about the amazing challenges gold mining pioneers faced. Once you arrive at Mascot Mine, you’ll come to appreciate the daily life of a mine worker- including the risks associated with it. Then try your hand at gold panning on the Similkameen River system and wander through the Snaza’ist Discovery Centre for greater insight into this fascinating profession. As your day comes to a close, refuel with lunch at the Hitching Post Restaurant! Bring your camera because there are plenty of vantage points to capture knock-out photography! Due to the incredibly diverse territory, a wide range of birds may be sighted, including western bluebird, black chinned hummingbird and Clark’s nutcracker jay. Waterfowl such as limicolae, nightjars, raptors and passerines also call this magnificently varied land home. This is an ideal activity for nature enthusiasts and bird watchers of all experience levels. Plan your excursion for dawn or dusk in an effort to sight more obscure species. Over 300 species of birds can be seen in the Okanagan Valley throughout the year, including the rarely seen yellow-breasted chat, bobolink, long billed curlew or white-headed woodpecker. May to early August is the best time for seeing birds. During the peak season, one can easily identify 75 to 100 species in a day’s outing. Hike Magnificent Mount Kobau
