A short flight from Maui you’ll find the youngest Hawaiian Island; the Big Island of Hawaii. Thanks to its ever erupting Mt. Kilauea, you’ll discover just how this island chain was formed as you witness hot lava pierce the land and spill into the relatively cool ocean. This is new Hawaii forming right before your eyes! You’ll tour Volcanoes National Park , learning about the geology, history, and legends of the volcano, visit hardened lava fields, view active steam vents, and be awestruck by the greatness of the Halema’uma’u Crater. The sight of a lava flow in the evening is spectacular.

You’ll also experience other must-see Big Island sites, such as stunning black sand beaches, serene Rainbow Falls which spill over an ancient legendary Hawaiian cave and down 80 feet into a series of pools, and tranquil Liliuokalani Gardens, one of the largest Edo-style gardens of its kind outside of Japan. Getting to Your Activity

Guests are responsible for getting themselves to the Kahului Airport. Please arrive at least one hour prior
to scheduled departure time.

  • Because of the ever-changing intensity and course of lava activity, viewing areas are subject to change as deemed necessary by Hawaii Civil Defense. Additionally, please be aware that lava flows are a naturally occurring event and sightings are not guaranteed. Discover Hawaii Tours does not guarantee the viewing of active lava flow or other natural events.
  • Volcanic fumes (VOG) are hazardous to your health. Persons with breathing and heart difficulties, pregnant women, infants, and young children are especially at risk should not consider this tour.
  • Scheduled bathroom stops along the routes that coincide with scenic lookouts, beaches, and other stops and attractions throughout your tour.
  • Travergence suggests that you use sunscreen, wear comfortable loose clothing, a hat and close-toed walking shoes such as sneakers. Bring a light jacket.

Identification for people aged 18 and over is required to board your flight. If you are a US citizen,
government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s licence, will suffice. Foreign visitors will need to
present a passport.

All departures are subject to suitable weather conditions and may be postponed or cancelled at the discretion of the operator. Travergence is not responsible for and will not extend financial reimbursement for delays, traffic, inclement weather, or mechanical problems.

Due to airline tickets restrictions, all tours which include airfare are non-refundable once the reservation is purchased. Airline tickets are non-changeable and non-transferable.

Departure

Your flight for Hilo leaves Kahului at approximately 9:30am. You will be picked up at the Hilo airport once your flight arrives.

We will get ahold of you shortly after your booking to confirm your exact flight departure time.

Please check in to the Kahului airport at least one hour prior to scheduled departure time.
