Fly Away: One-Day Mt. Kilauea Volcano Eco Excursion
by Discover Hawaii ToursAs soon as your plane lifts off for the Big Island, you’ll experience stunning views of intensely blue waters punctuated by lush green islands. You’ll touch down in Hilo and be greeted by your professional tour guide and commence on your excursion. Due to its abundance of orchids, the Big Island of Hawaii is nicknamed the Orchid Isle, but it might be more aptly named the Volcanic Isle due to the number of volcanoes you’ll discover here. The most fascinating of which is the ever-erupting Mt. Kilauea, and you’re about to see it in action! Just as the sun begins to set behind the measureless Pacific, you’ll feel the crunch of hardened lava rock under foot as your guide escorts you to view hot lava pierce the land and spill into the ocean; the Big Island is enlarging before your eyes. Your guide will help you understand the history and legends of Mt. Kilauea and drive you along famous Crater Rim Drive to view active steam vents, where you’ll be awestruck by the greatness of the Halema’uma’u Crater. You’ll have the chance to visit the Jaggar Museum, where you’ll learn much about how volcanoes are formed and view active seismographs as they record real-time volcanic activity of the islands. Your eco excursion will also take you to tranquil Liliuokalani Gardens, one of the largest Edo-style gardens of its kind outside of Japan, allow you to walk along dazzling black sand beaches surrounded by stands of lush green palms, and enjoy the serene Rainbow Falls which tumble down 80 feet over an ancient legendary Hawaiian cave. Airfare is included! Highlights 3 hours at Volcanoes National Park. Visit Kilauea Iki Overlook and travel Historic Banyan Drive.
